Mineral Resources reunites FIFO workers with their families on Christmas Day

During this festive season we helped our FIFO workers get into the Christmas spirit by flying their families to site to celebrate the day together.

Almost 200 family members were welcomed at our Mt Marion, Carina, Windarling and Koolyanobbing sites having boarded the special Christmas morning charters run by our partner Alliance Airline, to take part in MRL’s long-standing company tradition of reuniting families on one of the most important days of the year.

The FIFO Families were treated to a 5-star hospitality experience on arrival with a full Christmas spread and a host of activities for the children – including the chance to experience some of our most impressive machinery on site and a guest appearance from Santa himself.

Paul Brown, our Chief Executive, Commodities, who looks after our mining operations, explained that it is a way we can thank our people who are rostered on to work during the Christmas break. “Being able to support our people and reward their dedication and hard work has proven more important than ever this year. During the past 6 years we have sent families to spend Christmas on our sites, recognising that being away from families can be hard at this time of the year so it’s our way helping it make it a bit easier and to thank our people who work tirelessly to keep our operations running throughout the year.”

This year we also increased our support for people in the lead up to the holiday season with the launch of Australia’s first ‘FIFO Happiness Tour’, which saw a series of mental-health workshops created around pre-emptive wellbeing strategies rolled out over two weeks, to thousands of our team members across 15 of our sites.
