Kicking off a new community partnership in the Pilbara

NPFL

A new long-term partnership between Mineral Resources (MinRes) and the North Pilbara Football League (NPFL) is set to support the continued success of community football in the region.

As the league’s major sponsor for the next three seasons, MinRes will provide vital funding and support to deliver the regular NPFL season before an exciting MinRes Finals Series decides which local team comes out on top.

MinRes Executive General Manager Project Development, Joshua Thurlow, said the NPFL partnership stems from an ongoing commitment to supporting communities where we operate.

“Local sport is often the lifeblood of regional communities and we’re looking forward to supporting the NPFL to keep players, supporters and community members connected and entertained for the next three seasons,” Thurlow said.

“Our business is proud to have strong ties to the Pilbara and we appreciate the important role of sport in bringing together communities across the region. Good luck to all teams for the season ahead.”

The NPFL began in 1977 and each year sees the Dampier Sharks, Karratha Falcons, Karratha Kats, Port Hedland Rovers, South Hedland Swans and Wickham Wolves battle it out for premiership glory.

NPFL President, Paul Lott, said the MinRes partnership would help the league continue to provide an important outlet for local players, officials, volunteers, and supporters to stay active and build strong relationships within the community.

“Our league is a strong and popular competition, but it takes significant effort and cost to get everyone together playing on the weekends – be it coaches and support staff to equipment, umpires, catering and insurance,” Lott said.

“Without sponsors like Mineral Resources, we simply would not have football in the Pilbara – so this partnership is a welcome investment in the league, our community and the game we all enjoy so much.”

MinRes is committed to supporting the communities where we operate, with a focus on organisations delivering positive outcomes across health and wellbeing, employment and education, and community programs.
