Peer support for mental wellbeing

We’re always interested in ways we can support mental health in the workplace, which is why we’re proud to be part of the Resourceful Mind peer support pilot program.

Developed by Lifeline WA in collaboration with the Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME), the program is targeted at resource sector workers and equips them with the skills and tools to navigate conversations with their colleagues if they’re going through tough times.

It’s based on the premise that remote workers spending extended periods of time with their teammates often form strong relationships quickly, and there are often go-to people who are sought out for a chat and to provide emotional support.

Members of our CSI Mining Services team were the first from MRL to take part in the pilot, with our people keen to help make a difference.

Roger Booth, Roving Trainer and Assessor (pictured below, center) has completed the program which consists of a series of virtual video sessions facilitated by Lifeline. He said the training had provided him with significant tools to provide peer support to his colleagues on-site.

“We really want conversations around mental health to be as common as conversations about physical health. Programs like this are a strong demonstration that we care about our people and participating in programs like this is a great way to support health and wellbeing, particularly at our remote locations,” Roger said.

Resourceful Mind has officially been launched by the Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Mental Health, at a breakfast event hosted by CME and Lifeline WA.

We look forward to more of our people completing the pilot and applying their skills in the workplace over the coming months.
